Blagaj, Počitelj and Kravica can sit on the same broad southward route, but that does not mean every visitor should compress them into one day.
A shorter first outing
Pair Mostar with Blagaj when you want a gentle extension rather than a full road day. Spend time by the Buna, walk beyond the most concentrated visitor area and return to Mostar with energy left for the evening.
A southward heritage and landscape day
Počitelj and Kravica can create a useful contrast between a historic hillside settlement and a waterfall landscape. Seasonal conditions matter: heat changes the climb, while water levels and access arrangements change the waterfall experience.
A visit with a distinct purpose
Međugorje is best approached as a pilgrimage destination rather than a quick photo stop. Trebinje is far enough to reward more time; if wine country, the river and the city all interest you, consider staying overnight.
Pair Trebinje with Vjetrenica
Vjetrenica Cave, near Ravno, is one of southern Herzegovina's defining natural sites and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2024. It works better as part of a considered southern itinerary than as another hurried stop. Check the official entry schedule and allow for the cool cave environment.
Give Sutjeska its own day
Sutjeska National Park lies much farther east, near Foča and Tjentište. Its mountain terrain, Perućica forest reserve and Maglić reward a dedicated full day or overnight plan. Access to sensitive or demanding areas may require local guidance, so confirm current conditions before departure.
Independent travel or a guide?
A car offers flexibility. A good small-group or private guide can add context and remove parking logistics. Before booking, confirm the stops, time at each place, admissions, meal arrangements, group size and cancellation policy.
Check on the day
Weather, opening arrangements, religious observances, road conditions and border plans can affect the route. Keep one stop optional and prioritise the place that matters most to you.
