The most satisfying view changes as you move: above the river, at water level, through a lane and from the opposite bank.
Start on the approaches
Pause before stepping onto the bridge. The approach lanes frame the arch differently and show how the crossing connects both sides of the Old City. Keep doorways, shop entrances and the flow of pedestrians clear.
Look from river level
Where public paths are open, the lower perspective reveals the scale of the arch and the Neretva gorge. Stone can be slippery and river conditions can change, so remain on permitted routes and respect barriers.
Return in different light
Early light is often calmer; late light can bring stronger contrast between pale stone, shadow and water. Cloudy weather can be excellent for architectural detail. Avoid climbing walls or entering private terraces simply for a higher angle.
Photograph respectfully
Ask before making a close portrait of a craftsperson, worker or worshipper. Do not block narrow lanes with tripods. If a viewpoint belongs to a café, museum or religious building, follow its access rules and make a genuine contribution rather than treating it as a free platform.
